LEKITA WERTS

Abundant, Obedient, Anointed….are a few words that people often use to describe urban gospel singer/songwriter Lekita Werts. Lekita’s humility and charity for others compliments her passion to spread the gospel through music.
“I attribute it all to GOD. I’m appreciative and grateful for the blessings that God has given me….to sing, to minister through music, and to encourage people along the way. My prayer is that everyone feel the love of God and possess their destiny.”
Lekita Werts is from the Tampa Bay area of Florida, where she grew-up singing familiar hymns as an AME member. Her grandmother would always place her (as a child) in front of the congregation during youth Sundays. However, you could call it a family affair because Lekita’s parents are natural singers also. “Your parents always have that favorite song….my mother’s favorite was ‘Order My Steps’ by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and a lot of R&B classics….I would often think, ‘My momma can blow.'”
Upon high school, Lekita discovered her second passion, “the arts,” and decided to attend a performing arts conservatory school after graduation. After graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles, California, Lekita returned to academics.
“Performing arts school was for professional training, but there was still a void in my academia….I wanted more.”
Lekita now has her associate of arts degree, bachelors in psychology degree, and is a doctor of physical therapy student. “I’m so proud of how far God has carried me throughout these years. I have so many experiences and testimonies to add into my songs. I’m going to do my best to encourage people…. which is a new challenge.”
Lekita’s return to music as a gospel artist attests to her faith in God, and we know that her story through music will be received with open arms.
